“…The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin’…”
Today I write to you with blurred vision. No, I’m not crying, my eyesight has always been crappy. More so at the moment as I wait for the prescription eyedrops to soak in & do what they are meant to do: create a clean surface so that the surgeons can do their LASIK in a couple days. Needless to say, after 25 years of wearing glasses / contacts, this is a dream come true! I think I’m still in shock… Maybe when I climb the Ko’olau summit for the millionth time & actually be able to SEE the horizon or swim underwater for the first time without a foggy snorkel mask & contacts barely floating on the surface they are intended for, it will hit me…
A lot has changed since I last wrote to you all; needless to say it’s been a prolific year. Or more than likely; like my vision, the change has been more in perspective. Although I wish I could say that I am opening up Know Krumbs Bakery next week, my journey has taken a detour, which I am learning to embrace. Sometimes, when we read a success story, whether it’s about a self-made millionaire or a passionate bus boy turned chef, we forget that there’s ebbs & flows to their tales. Every day was not chalked full of glamorous adventures; most of the time it was simply the hustle & bustle of trying to survive, following a dream that isn’t always in view.
The year has been just that; tales of first time adventure different than what I would normally explore, deep, intimate & downright life-altering conversations & to be quite honest; many an afternoon staring at the ocean waves crashing before me with their natural melodies of infinite times. I’ve watched some of my very young friends develop into budding teenagers, ripe for the world with their creative talents, witnessed the every day neighbor tackle a new diet because his closest friends are getting hit with heart attacks & worse, plus view from afar the local sustainability movement develop recipes & ideas very similar to my own!
What have I been up to? Kissin’ & tellin’… Haha; I can sense many of you on the edge of your seats waiting for some juicy gossip. Come on folks; I’m a lady! KISS is an acronym many of us have heard: Keep It Simple Silly. So yeah, that’s what I’ve been doing. All of my meals are from scratch, but more basic & easier to manage for a busy schedule. My lifestyle is very simple & yet deeply rewarding because I’m not chasing my tail around in circles & am finally learning to focus my energy & intention on my core wants & needs.
As I type this I realize that the advice shared with me recently by someone I care very deeply for is exactly what I have been doing. He suggested that something happens to the brain when we do our every day tasks differently, say brushing your teeth with your left hand instead of your right. We develop a new way of viewing the world, in essence creating a creative diversity within the mind; the key to adaptability, by doing such. I’ve always been one to challenge myself, but lately I find that I’m learning a whole new set of skills like employee management, how to fix a leaky faucet & engaging children in fun projects. Of course, I do brush with my left & take odd routes to my destinations, cause it’s fun!
The tales of Miss Love aren’t riddled with death-defying hikes, daily monumental culinary sessions or 14 hour days right now & that’s fine with me, for now. There’s been adventures none-the-less, just in new ways! I’ve celebrated some amazing one year anniversaries that I am VERY honored & proud of, went sky diving for the first time (EPIC), did online school for the first time, gained my real estate license, went to my first comedy show & just lots of every day things that make keep me internally thoughtful, grateful & geared towards long-term happiness.
What’s new in your life? I’d love to hear about the tales between tales & how you KISS. Ha, please don’t run up to me & try to ACTUALLY kiss me, but I do accept hugs. 😉
The chill is in the air that means it’s the holiday season. I just want to wish you all Happy Holidays with lots of joys! Whether I’m baking, selling a house or watching the sunset, I’ll be eager to hear of your inspirations, motivations & tale-worthy (always in my book) adventures when I return from my introspection…
